PECO Go 4th & Learn: The Wawa Dairy and The Story of Milk
July 2nd, 2020 | 10:00 am - 10:00 pm

Learn how a Philadelphia Textile Merchant transformed a door-to-door milk delivery service from a small dairy with Guernsey cows into today’s 900-store convenience retailer that produces more than 90 million fluid quarts of milk per day!

For more than a century, millions of loyal Wawa customers have put your trust into our commitment to providing the highest quality dairy products possible.  At the dawn of a new century, a tradition of quality began.  In 1902, Philadelphia Textile Merchant, George Wood, founded Wawa Dairy Farms, with a small herd of Guernsey cows and a new processing and bottling facility in Wawa, PA.  From the beginning, the Wawa Dairy specialized in Certified raw milk products from cows that were guaranteed to be healthy and disease-free.  Doctors recommended Wawa milk for adults and infants and wrote letters of endorsement.  Today, the Wawa Dairy remains committed to maintaining the highest health standards for all of our products.  Food safety and quality is a critical part of our business, and an area where our associates have earned an excellent reputation, both in our industry and with our regulatory agencies

100 Years of Fresh

Trust was a hallmark of Wawa’s door-to-door delivery service to customers.  In fact, customers often left the key with their deliveryman when they weren’t home, so that products could be refrigerated in a timely fashion. While decades ago, many of you welcomed the Wawa milkman into your homes, today, we welcome you and your family into our 900 stores. Today, the Wawa Dairy remains committed to maintaining the highest health standards for all of our products.  Food safety and quality is a critical part of our business, and an area where our associates have earned an excellent reputation, both in our industry and with our regulatory agencies.

The Story of Milk

The next time you choose a Wawa dairy product, drink up the knowledge that a legacy of care and confidence goes into every single product we produce. It’s a legacy you can trust, and it’s as dependable as the clip-clop of the horse-drawn carriage more than 100 years ago.
