ANNUAL ALUMNI EXHIBITION
Featuring recent works by Moore alumni, the selections on view in this year’s exhibition represent a variety of degree programs including Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Illustration, Photography & Digital Arts and Textile Design, among others. Showcasing a wide variety of materials and skill sets, this presentation includes artworks in all mediums. This year’s exhibition is juried by Emily Zilber, an independent curator and consultant focused on contemporary art, craft, and design. From 2010-2018, Zilber was the first Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and she currently sits on the boards of the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston and Craft Now Philadelphia, and on the Board of Advisors of the North Bennet Street School. Exhibit open June 8 – August 10, 2019.
GARY SMITH: PICK UP STICKS
Artist Gary Smith creates abstract objects out of found and recycled materials—such as old barn joists and repurposed construction debris—and combines them with natural wood harvested from his five acre property in rural Chester County. Smith shapes the wood, burns the wood, seals it, cuts into it with common tools and seals it again and again to preserve it. This juxtaposition of otherwise ordinary mediums are displayed in unexpected compositions that bring new life to formerly discarded and forgotten fragments. This exhibition presents new and recent works created over the course of nearly twenty years, while also paying homage to Smith’s career as chief preparator in The Galleries at Moore from 1987 – 2012. Exhibit open June 15 – August 10, 2019.
